Halloween Festivities

Tyler practiced trick or treating.... well, he practiced using his bucket at least.

Tyler and I attended a community Halloween festival.

A mariachi band played.
Tyler wasn't sure if he liked or disliked the band.
But he was sure he liked the instrument section of the festival!

This man carved detailed images on pumpkins. It was neat to see.

I thought these were creative.

A cop lecturing a kid about running away from his grandma at the festival. Pretty funny actually.

My friend Niki and I co-hosted a Halloween party at her house. It was a lot of fun.

We also did dress up for story time.

And finally, the ward Trunk or Treat...

Jeff used his minion class costume.

Lovely Ladies!

I want to say a big, big thank you to my dear friend Alisha Packer who helped me make, yes, that is right, make Tyler's costume! When I began to think about Halloween for Tyler I knew right away that I wanted to have him be a monkey and us be his zoo keepers. One of the first animal noises Tyler learned to make was that of a monkey. He loved to say "ooo ooo ahh ahh."

So, with that theme in mind, I began my search for a monkey costume. But to my avail, after weeks of searching, I couldn't find anything I really liked. When I was at Alisha's house about a week or so before Halloween, she showed me the Astronaut (I mean, "space ranger". Gotta get it right for Nate) costume she made for her son and it got me thinking. I asked her if she could help me pull something like that together for Tyler's monkey costume. She said sure and the adventure began!

I was able to buy all the fleece for less than $3.00! The next day we spent a few hours working on the costume. She taught me how to create a pattern (we traced Tyler's footy pajamas), cut the fabric, and sewed it all together! She did the sewing on the belly because I didn't want it to be super crooked, but other than that, I did the rest. We had to use a ball to help with the placement of the ears because Tyler wouldn't stand still long enough for us to get a good marking.

Overall I am very happy with how my first ever sewing project went. Thanks again Alisha!
